Rottnest Island in words

Okay. I think my previous entry was too brief so I am going to tell about the 2 days trip now.

I slept at 2am and had to wake up at 6:50am to get ready. For the first time in my life, I was to wake Bhavna up! Amazing. She was always the one waking people up. And I woke Jim up as well. Then we departed KV by taxi at 7.30am and reached the jetty at about 8am. We got there, paid for our reserved tickets and bikes and proceeded to have a light breakfast.

From left to right :

Bhavna(Mauritius), V(Zimbabwe), Rishi(India), Chris(Aus), M(not to be disclosed), Emelie(Sweden), Edison(Canada), Me(M’sia), Sonia(Mauritius), Jim(India).

How globalized! Anyway, we boarded the jetty at 8.45am. From the map, it looked like a 20 mins journey. However, it took us 2 hours to get there. I was kinda seasick by the time we got there -_-

The service was so good! I was so impressed by the Rottnest Express company. Thanks to Chris to planned everything, he booked bicycles for everyone of us and the bikes were right at the jetty waiting for us once we get of the ferry! How nice! We then went to have brunch. It was a sunny day with breeze which made it really nice to be outdoor. We checked into our chalet after brunch and settled our stuffs down before going out. We split into 3 groups. Sonia and Edison went to the general store to get something and Jim and Emelie went to get some liquor and before we all knew it, the rest of us started to cycle to the nearest beach and we lost contact with the other 2 groups because reception was really bad and although it looks like a tiny dot on the map, Rottnest Island is freaking big(when u have to cycle).

We cycled 7kms before paradise came to our eyes. It was Salmon Bay. It was so gorgeous we parked our bikes and almost jumped into the water immediately. There are 18 beaches on Rottnest Island itself but only about 7 are accessible. Besides Salmon Bay, Georgie Bay is another beauty. There was another beach we went on the second day which name I cannot recall. There is every necessity on the Island. You name it, it has got it!

As you can see from the pictures, we had a whale of a time there. We built sandcastles and took lots of pictures(but some are too exposing to be posted here hehe). Then I got tanned as well(I am so dark now :(). After what seemed like 3 hours, we cycles another 7kms back to our chalet. The cycling was hell because there were too many uphills!!!! I almost wanted to ditch the bike and just walk.

After we went back to our chalet, the other two groups came back respectively. We all took shower and prepared to go for dinner. We saw many Quokkas(An animal Rottnest Island is famous for) on the island! Its like a mini kangaroo. Very cute and tame. We had dinner at this restaurant thats facing the sea. It was gorgeous albeit a bit too windy. Dinner was lovely and the night went by in a blink. We cycled leisurely back to our chalet. Oh! Bhavna almost ran over a Quokka on the way back :P

I quickly changed into my pyjamas and jumped into my bed and was set to visit lalaland. But these good friends of mine just wouldnt let me sleep. M came to my bed and started to talk to me. Before I knew it, Bhav joined in. Then Chris dragged a sofa to my bed and joined in. Then Jim and Emelie joined us as well! My single bed was squeezed with 5 adults. They all drank and I think M and I were the only sober ones. Bhav was so drunk she passed out on my bed. So I had to take her sleeping bag and sleep in another room instead. It was a really fun night though. Had a lot of decent conversations and we bonded a lot.

The next day everyone was up by 9am as we had to check out by 10am. After checking out, we went for breakfast. We decided to take the tour bus this day instead of cycling as always everyone was experiencing pain at their crotch, including myself. Too much cycling =\

The bus ride was really nice as well! We then stopped by at the beach which name I forgot and spent an hour there. Then we caught up with the bus again and toured the rest of the island. It was really lovely :)

We then went to the jetty at 3pm to wait for the ferry which departed at 4am. Everyone was so tired almost all of us took a nap on the journey back. It was a very enjoyable trip and I think we’re going to Mandurah in 2 week’s time. Am looking forward to go :D
