What CNY means to me

Filed under: My thoughts, Pictures — Valentina February 21, 2007 @ 7:27 pm

Woah. Another year has past. Time flies. I have spent CNY in many places before but this has to be the most quiet one because my family is not visiting and not expecting guests too! That is because we dont have many friends and relatives in KL so my mum thought she could skip the hassle, which suits me.

I have to thank one of my readers, Crispy, for sending me a picture of how Kuching looks like when the clock struck midnight during CNY eve.

Picture courtesy of Crispy. Thank you!

Every few years, CNY has a new and different meaning to me. When was I was kid, it was the crowd and ang paus which made me anticipate. It was a lot of money considering my parents would give us 500 and my dad’s friends would give us 50 and sometime 100 each. Not to mention the feast my mum would come up with.

To make CNY merrier, my dad would bring us to places which sold fireworks and we could choose whichever ones we wanted. One year, we bought too many and we couldnt finish. Those CNYs were the best, ever.

As I grew older, I soon found out that the ang pau money of course was all gone.

CNY has a completely different meaning to me the year we celebrated with one family member short. My could dad was no longer with us and that particular CNY felt so dead and cold.

The past few CNYs meant visiting friends’ houses and have fun(ang paus were no longer the issue). This year, CNY means staying at home and live life like a pig. I think that might last for a few years before it changes again.

Again, Happy Chinese New Year, people. May you all lead a happy and healthy life.

Ta!
